Ananya and Rohan met the way a lot of good stories start quietly — through mutual friends, at a wedding that was not their own. Three years later, they asked us to tell theirs, across three days at a lake palace in Udaipur, surrounded by people who had watched their relationship grow from a distance and were finally close enough to celebrate it.

The first day was mehndi — marigold, laughter, and a courtyard that smelled like rain even though it hadn’t rained. We spent most of it low to the ground, close to hands and henna and the particular chaos of aunts giving instructions no one asked for. By evening, the light through the palace arches did most of our work for us.

The wedding day itself moved fast and slow at once — fast in the way ceremonies do, slow in the ten minutes we pulled Ananya and Rohan away from everyone to stand at the edge of the lake, just the two of them, saying nothing in particular. That’s the frame that ended up on their album cover.

What we remember most, though, is the reception — not the choreography, but the moment right after it, when both families ended up on the dance floor together, uninvited and unplanned, and stayed there for another hour. We didn’t direct a single second of it. We just didn’t look away.
